Thursday 26 – Friday 27 October 2017; Clifford Chance Office, 1 rue d’Astorg 75008 Paris
ETHICS members and invited guests gathered in Paris last week for the ETHICS General Assembly 2017. At the General Assembly, Dominique Laymand, President of ETHICS, announced the handover of the Presidency to Roeland van Aelst. Dominique and Roeland are the founding members of ETHICS, so whilst Dominique is a “tough act to follow”, Roeland is well placed to succeed her.
The programme began with the Society’s statutory business. Olivier Chaduteau of DayOne Consulting then moderated a session where members of the Strategic Committee presented the Strategic Vision for ETHICS. The audience split into four groups and used the “World Café” technique to move around the room giving their ideas on the topic at each of four flipcharts. The outputs will be used to turn the Strategic Vision into reality and to engage more members in the implementation phase.
On day 2, the Keynote Speaker from the World Bank gave his insights into their Compliance Programme, including how to nurture an ethical culture. Change Management is such an integral part of the role of Compliance Officers that speakers from INSEAD and Ipsen gave their thoughts on this important topic, both from a theoretical and a practical perspective.
The presentation from Peter Dieners of Clifford Chance on “Anti-Corruption Legal Landscape Update” included lots of practical advice on how to include the new ISO standard 37001 within effective Compliance Programmes.
Other speakers and panels included how ETHICS can take a leadership role in Code Convergence, and the compliance challenges presented by new business models. The latter topic was preceded by a presentation on Value-Based Healthcare from Boston Consulting Group.
Finally, because ETHICS is a membership organisation, the networking breaks were sufficiently long to enable lots of discussions to take place outside the formal presentations and panels. The presentations used during the General Assembly will soon be sent to Members and Invited Guests.
